What We’ve Learned In 12 Years Of SchlickArt

It feels like just yesterday when we were lounging poolside, a couple of beers in hand, and a few notebooks brimming with aspirations for the future. Reflecting on our journey, it all began after attending the illustrious WPPI photography conference, where endless possibilities seemed within reach.

From that day forward, SchlickArt's seeds were sown, marking the beginning of an enduring dream. However, it hasn't been devoid of challenges. We've toiled through countless late nights and weekends, tirelessly crafting a brand we're deeply proud of, all within the embrace of our beloved community.

Today, as we celebrate our 12th year in business, we're humbled by the realization of many dreams once scribbled on those notebook pages. To commemorate this milestone, we'd like to share some of the invaluable lessons gleaned throughout our journey, in the hopes that they inspire you on your path to realizing your own aspirations.

**Key Insights From Our 12-Year Journey**

    **1. Proactive Marketing**

As B.C. Forbes wisely asserted, "If you don’t drive your business, you will be driven out of business." This rings especially true in today's dynamic business landscape. At SchlickArt, we prioritize proactive marketing, grounded in meticulous research and data insights. By strategizing on a quarterly basis and preemptively crafting marketing materials, we stay ahead of the curve, steering our business towards its desired destination.

    **2. Consistency is Key**

In our formative years, we experimented with various strategies, often succumbing to the allure of the next big idea. Yet, through rigorous data analysis, we unearthed a fundamental truth: success lies in consistency. Embracing this mantra, we've learned to commit wholeheartedly to strategies that yield results, resisting the temptation to pivot prematurely. In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, steadfastness is paramount for sustainable growth.

**3. The Power of Delegation: "Who Not How"**

Entrepreneurship demands a multifaceted skill set beyond one's initial expertise. Recognizing this, we've embraced the ethos of "Who Not How." By entrusting tasks to capable specialists and relinquishing the impulse to micromanage, we've cultivated a culture of efficiency and innovation at SchlickArt. Delegation isn't merely a means of lightening the workload—it's a strategic imperative for scaling our business sustainably.

    **4. Start With Strategy**

In the digital age, content creation abounds, yet without a clear strategy, efforts may yield little return. At SchlickArt, we advocate for a purpose-driven approach to marketing. By delineating clear objectives and understanding our target audience's journey, we craft content that resonates authentically, guiding prospects seamlessly through the customer lifecycle.

**5. Embracing Resourcefulness: Over, Under, Through**

When faced with adversity, a resilient mindset can transform obstacles into opportunities. At SchlickArt, we uphold the mantra of "Over, Under, Through," signifying our unwavering commitment to finding creative solutions. Amidst uncertainty, this mindset imbues us with the determination to overcome challenges, propelling us forward on our entrepreneurial odyssey.

    **6. Progress Over Perfection**

Perfectionism can be a paralyzing force, hindering progress and stifling innovation. At SchlickArt, we've shed the shackles of perfectionism, embracing a philosophy of "Done is Better than Perfect." In a digital landscape characterized by impermanence, consistency and authenticity reign supreme. By prioritizing progress over perfection, we've fostered a culture of innovation and adaptability.

**7. A Rising Tide Raises All Ships**

Collaboration lies at the heart of our ethos at SchlickArt. We believe in the transformative power of collective action, where shared success propels us all forward. By nurturing meaningful connections within our community and fostering a spirit of abundance, we've forged enduring partnerships that enrich both our business and our lives.

    **8. Know Your Worth**

Self-worth is the bedrock upon which success is built. At SchlickArt, we recognize the inherent value we bring to the table, and we're steadfast in our commitment to delivering exceptional service. By honoring our worth and advocating for our value, we empower ourselves to pursue our passions with unwavering confidence.

As we commemorate 12 years of SchlickArt, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our community, clients, and partners who've accompanied us on this remarkable journey. Together, we've weathered storms, celebrated triumphs, and forged lasting connections. As we look to the future, we're energized by the endless possibilities that lie ahead, eager to continue inspiring, creating, and innovating. Cheers to 12 years—and many more to come!

Flair Cleaners is matching donations up to 250 pounds of food at each of its four Southern California locations.

STUDIO CITY, CALIF., February 28, 2024 Flair Cleaners, Southern California’s leading eco-friendly dry cleaner, is holding its 9th Annual Flair Cares Food Drive, Hang Up Hunger, March 1 - 31, 2024. The drive benefits the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry, Food Pantry, LAX, the Salvation Army Santa Monica food pantry, and the nonprofit Santa Clarita Grocery. Flair Cleaners is matching donations up to 250 pounds of food donated by customers at each location.

“One of the greatest feelings in the world is knowing that we as individuals can make a difference,” said Gary Futterman, owner of Flair Cleaners. “Public charities, food banks and church pantries are doing more than ever before, but they need our help. Our annual food drive makes a huge difference in their ability to serve our neighbors in need.”

Community members should bring unopened, canned or boxed food to any Flair Cleaners – Redondo Beach, Santa Monica, Studio City, or Valencia. Do not bring any food past its expiration date or packaged in glass. Customers using the company’s Free Pickup and Delivery service can leave bags or boxes of food they wish to donate with their pickup orders in March. Donations will be delivered by Flair Cleaners to the following charities:

    • The Salvation Army Santa Monica feeds meals to anyone in need - this includes homeless people of all ages, as well as individuals and families who may be down on their luck and in need of a helping hand.
    • The Santa Clarita Grocery operates as an all-volunteer organization serving “week worth of groceries” and personal care items, for their guests including fresh milk, eggs, produce, canned goods, dried goods, meat, deli and breads.
    • Food Pantry, LAX, was established in 1985 under the auspices of the Westchester/Ladera Clergy Association as a community-based means of feeding the poor in the community. Its mission is to provide food in the form of groceries to low- and no-income families and individuals in their area. Bags of groceries are sufficient to provide meals for 1-2 days to the families that come to the Food Pantry each week.
    • Established in 1983, the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer coalition of diverse religious institutions working together to address the problem of hunger in the community.

In the dynamic world of business, a well-planned marketing budget is a key element of success. It serves as a financial road map, guiding companies in efficiently allocating resources to various marketing activities, ensuring they are in line with overall business goals.

    1. Alignment with Business Objectives: A marketing budget is not just about spending money; it's about investing in areas that align with the broader objectives of your business. Whether it’s increasing brand awareness, boosting sales, or entering new markets, a budget helps prioritize spending on activities that contribute most effectively to these goals.
    2. Strategic Resource Allocation: Marketing encompasses a range of activities from digital advertising and social media campaigns to traditional print media and events. A budget allows you to strategically allocate resources across these channels based on their effectiveness and your target audience. It prevents overspending in one area at the cost of another, ensuring a balanced and effective marketing approach.
    3. Measuring ROI: A crucial aspect of any marketing budget is the ability to measure the return on investment (ROI). By setting a budget, you can track spending against results, allowing you to evaluate the effectiveness of different marketing strategies and make informed decisions about future investments.
    4. Flexibility and Adaptability: The business environment is ever-changing, and so are marketing trends. A well-planned budget includes a degree of flexibility, allowing businesses to adapt to market changes, new opportunities, or unforeseen challenges without compromising their overall strategy.
    5. Long-term Planning and Sustainability: Consistent investment in marketing is essential for long-term business growth. A budget facilitates this by allowing for sustainable spending, avoiding the pitfalls of sporadic or impulsive marketing investments that may yield short-term gains but are unsustainable in the long run.
    6. Competitive Advantage: In a competitive market, businesses that strategically allocate their marketing budget have an edge. It enables them to make smarter choices in promotional activities, target their audience more effectively, and achieve greater market penetration compared to competitors who might not be as judicious with their spending.
    7. Enhancing Creativity and Innovation: Interestingly, a set budget can also enhance creativity. When resources are limited, marketing teams are pushed to think more innovatively, often leading to more effective and original marketing strategies.

To delve deeper into how to effectively plan your marketing budget, consider the insights from the article "Planning Your 2024 Marketing Budget" by 95Visual. SCV Water recently launched its Water Champions program, which focuses on supporting businesses within the SCV Water service area by providing programs and resources to use water efficiently. The program helps local businesses prioritize efficient water use and showcase their water conservation leadership to the community.

“In the Santa Clarita Valley, our business community is vibrant and active. Businesses recognize the benefits and value water provides to the community and business owners are taking steps to reduce water inefficiency and waste,” said SCV Water Sustainability Manager Matt Dickens. “They know that saving water is a continuous act – learning and implementing water-efficient habits to help make better choices for water use, so that they can become better stewards of our precious and vital resource.”

As part of the Water Champions program, SCV Water is inviting local businesses to participate in The Great Leak Sweep, a free water-use efficiency check-up for businesses within the SCV Water service area. The service helps businesses save water by detecting and fixing leaks; supplying water-saving devices (if needed); identifying other water savings opportunities to help lower water bills; and providing rebate and water-saving resource information.

“We’re excited to launch this program for the local business community. We want to work with them to minimize water waste by finding and fixing leaks,” said SCV Water Conservation Specialist Dolores Campos. “It’s also a great educational opportunity to teach them about water saving practices and reminding them about SCV Water rebates and resources to help them save water and money.”

    Check-Ups Coming Soon

Beginning in January 2024, WaterWise Consulting, Inc., will be conducting water-use efficiency check-ups. The service is voluntary and is provided to SCV businesses at no cost. WaterWise is a conservation consultant contracted through SCV Water, and is comprised of professional representatives trained in water use efficiency.

    The service includes:

    • Checking for toilet leaks and installing new flappers
    • Installing new high efficiency bathroom and kitchen aerators, and pre-rinse spray valves
    • Providing a push broom for cleaning up the exterior of the business
    • Providing information on available SCV Water rebates and incentive programs
    • Supplying EPA WaterSense training materials on methods to conserve water at the business

    Become a Water Champion

Upon completion of the check-up, participants will be provided with a Water Champion decal to display in the front window of their business.

Campos added, “We’re working together to reduce water waste and improve water-use efficiency within the Santa Clarita Valley’s business community, with the goal of ‘making water conservation a California and SCV way of life’.”

To participate in the program, call 661-513-1216 or email conservation@scvwa.org. For more information, visit: yourSCVwater.com/water-champions.
